I think he should visit Fiordland National Park, the largest national park in New Zealand, and home to some of the world’s largest waterfalls. I would like to visit Doubtful Sound, which contains two separate layers of water: several feet of fresh water above saltwater.

Fiordland is also the home of the kiwi bird. The Kiwi is the national symbol of New Zealand, and its currency is sometimes called a “kiwi dollar.”

10,000 People for Man vs. Wild Fiordland 2010

The only group I ever joined on Facebook is 10,000 People for Man vs. Wild Fiordland 2010. They reached their goal of 10,000 members, trying to convince Bear Grylls to film an episode of Man vs. Wild in Fiordland.

Unfortunately, Bear Grylls will not film Man vs. Wild in New Zealand in 2010. Liz Healy, Director of Global Communications for Discovery Channel said:

We are considering your part of the world for upcoming seasons

Bear Grylls is currently filming Worst Case Scenario in Los Angeles.

Bear Grylls will be placed in life-threatening situations, including a high-rise apartment fire, and a sinking car, to show viewers how to escape. Grylls will also fend off a shark attack — less likely, but probably very exciting to watch!

History of Worst Case Scenario

This television series is based on The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook, by Joshua Piven and David Borgenicht, published in 1999. Among other things, Piven and Borgenicht explain how to fight bears, alligators, and sharks. The original book evolved into a series of 30 books, on subjects which include, Life, Dating and Sex and Work. The Worst-Case Secenario books have sold over ten million copies.

Mike Rowe, who hosts Dirtiest Jobs, and narrates American Chopper, American Hot Rod, Deadliest Catch, Ghost Lab and Wild Pacific for Discovery Channel, hosted a similar show on TBS in 2002.

However, on earlier series, stunt men performed the escapes, not the host. Rowe explained in a CNN interview:

“we hire the best stunt people in the world to show you out to get out of quicksand, how to jump off of a building and live, how to get out from a car that is sinking in a lake, how to deliver a baby in a taxicab, how to fend off a shark.”

Bear Grylls replaced Mike Rowe, as well as the “stunt people” in 2010 version.

What Is Next for Bear Grylls?

Bear Grylls described this project in a 2008 interview, saying:

“We’re hoping to do an urban survival Man vs. Wild at the end of this year”

Done! Now we can wait for Man vs. Wild: The Movie. Bear Grylls said:

“I hope to do a film next year for Disney that’s gonna incorporate loads of different stuff. The idea is to kind of base it around Man vs. Wild, so we would be filming in a jungle and then everything starts going wrong. You see a plane crash, and there’s a family on-board, and then a whole cat-and-mouse game in the jungle and me getting the family out of there, and then it ends up in London with fight scenes off the rooftops. Again, it would be fun for me.”

Watch Worst Case Scenario’s 10th Anniversary for answer. At 1:43 of this 3:44 video, coauthor David Borgenicht, asks this multiple choice question to people on street:

Keeping Life Simple

My traumatic brain injury has forced me to make some adjustments to my life. One of these was to get a television set without a tuning dial. This way, I have a few pre–set channels to browse, instead of the dozens provided my cable company.

Since I dislike the gratuitous violence found on the three major networks, and Man vs. Wild is my favorite television program, I used to set my TV to tune to Discovery when it was turned on. This also got me interested in some of Disovery’s other shows, including Deadliest Catch, Dirty Jobs, and Mythbusters. Sometimes I would watch Man vs. Wild reruns too.

But I felt “safe” with Discovery channel. I never had to change the channel to avoid stuff that annoys me, like “gangsta–rap” or idiots shooting at each other.

Bleeping Beeps

The only thing that used to annoy me on Discovery, was the idiotic beeping on Deadliest Catch, when someone used an “profane word.” After violence, beeping is my second gripe about TV.

When I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, I was forced to listen to profanity constantly. Now that I live in Lexington, Kentucky, I don’t have to listen to it, and I don’t want to listen to it.

The only thing worse than profanity, is when television networks mask profanity with beeps. Which is why I rarely watch anything on Comedy Central:

Comedy Central, like all channels, had a choice: either ask performers not to use any of George Carlin’s “seven words”, ignore them, or replace those seven words with beeps. I would have ignored them, but they, and apparently all major cable networks, inexplicably chose the latter.

I think that if someone was going to be offended by a profane word, they would be equally offended by the beep. I also think that a “real comedian” can please any audience without profanity. For example, I cannot listen to Jackie Mason without laughing, or hearing any profanity.

One exception: I used to love Andrew Dice Clay — a special case.

Worse than Beeps

Something else I left behind in Brooklyn, were rodents. Unlike Brooklyn, Lexington is not infested with mice and rats. In Brooklyn, rat sightings are common in parks and beaches. But I have lived adjacent to a 20 acre park in Lexington, for two years, and have never seen a rat.

Do You Like Rats?

Somebody must like them, because Discovery introduced Verminators, which followed “an elite team of pestbusters” around.

As if the show was not enough, Discovery Channel peppered their other shows, the ones I liked, with Verminator commercials. Instead of being forced to see rats and roaches during commercials, I simply stopped watching Discovery.

I still watch Bear Grylls, but I quit watching other shows on Discovery.

I have not written anything for almost a month at Where Did My Brain Go? so I turned to my favorite topic, and looked for news.

Starting Off

I started at the logical place, Bear’s Blog, but it has not been updated since November 25^th. So I surfed over to http://discovery.com/bear/ where I ran into Discovery’s awful Flash monstrosity. I cannot figure out anything from that site, and I really wish they would change it.

Where is Bear Grylls News?

My next stop, was Discovery’s schedule, where I finally learned something.

Bear Eats (wt) will debut tomorrow (Dec 21) at 9 P.M. Discovery’s description:

“In this special film Bear Grylls takes us to nature’s kitchen.
It seems nothing–except maybe the fat of on a camel’s hump- is beyond Bear Grylls.”

I searched for mission everest, to see if it was also called a “special film,“ but it has been removed from their site.

Bear Eats (wt)

A “special film” sounds good, but what does the (wt) mean? After a search through schedules, I tried email to help@discovery.com, expecting it to have an autoresponder. No such luck. No reply.

My next stop was Discovery’s lengthy, but useless, TV FAQ, which contained a link to their site map.

The site map led me to Viewer Relations where, under “Question regarding,” I finally found “Discovery.com Web site.”

I sent them this message:
