Quick Mail 3.2.6 Maintenance Release

Quick Mail 3.2.7 was released on October 15, 2017.

Welcome to Quick Mail.

Quick Mail is a WordPress plugin that sends mail from the WP Dashboard or command line.

Quick Mail has evolved in three years. It does just about anything you can do with email from WordPress. You can even send private replies to comments with attachments.

Quick Mail 3.2.6 fixes two annoying bugs and adds one helpful feature.

What’s That Script Doing?

I was checking a new plugin, and noticed that it loaded content-specific Javascript files on every page. It seems that many plugins do this.

Improving Efficiency, Reducing Complexity

Quick Mail uses admin_enqueue_scripts() to load Javascript files and functions on all administrative pages. However, they are only needed for three Quick Mail links.

Quick Mail scripts are now loaded where they are needed.

I fixed a bug where a user who selected “Display Commenters instead of users,” but had no comments on their posts, was unable to send email.

I test if a message was submitted, before checking if user has any comments available for replies..

Too Many Comments?

option to limit displayed comments to 7 days

If you use Quick Mail to reply to comments, you have a new option to reduce the list of displayed comments.

I added a WP_Date_Query to select comments from recently published or modified posts.

Although this is a new option, you will not see a warning to check your settings.

You probably want to respond to recent comments. Comments from posts which were modified or published in the past week are displayed by default.

On the Horizon

Quick Mail has enough features, but too many options. It adds 7 site options to an already bloated database.

I will try to combine the options in the next release.

I enjoy fixing WordPress problems and improving Quick Mail.

Quick Mail will be updated whenever a bug is reported, or I find something to improve.
