Where Did My Brain Go?

Quick Mail 3.5.4 Sends Email with WordPress 4.6

Discover the latest version of Quick Mail.

I created the Quick Mail WordPress plugin in 2014, to send an email with an attachment from the WordPress dashboard.

Quick Mail users can select email recipients from WordPress site users or commenters.

Have you ever wanted to answer a comment privately, and include an attachment in your reply? Do it with Quick Mail :)

Use Quick Mail with WP-CLI to send an email with an attachment from the command line.

Does email sent from your WordPress blog get marked as spam? Use Quick Mail with Mailgun, Sendgrid or SparkPost to send reliable email.

Quick Mail 3.5.4 is the 40th update. I improved two features and fixed two bugs.

Quick Mail 3.5.4 Does Not Require WordPress 5

I want users who are afraid of Gutenberg to use the latest version of Quick Mail.

WordPress 5.0 with Gutenberg was released six months ago. However, only 51% of WordPress sites are using WordPress 5.

Quick Mail statistics are similar. I added JavaScript translations to Quick Mail 3.5.0 on New Year’s Day.

Unfortunately, only 56% of Quick Mail users are using version 3.5.0 or above.

Back to the Future

Quick Mail 3.5.4 uses wp_localize_script(), like earlier versions of Quick Mail.

Please Update Quick Mail

I hope the reduced version requirement encourages more users to update.

Every update improves or fixes something. Please use the latest version.

idn_to_ascii() Redux

I added support for international mail to Quick Mail in 2016.

Quick Mail uses the PHP function idn_acii to convert email addresses with “foreign” characters to punycode – a reversible representation of the address without accented characters.

I fixed a PHP 7 warning in Quick Mail 3.5.3. I found another warning recently, and fixed it.

NOTE: You must install PHP Internationalization Functions on your Web server to translate international email addresses.

Improved Email Validation

After 39 updates, I discovered that trailing spaces could mess up the AJAX email validation.

After fixing the spaces, I removed a check for WordPress login cookie. You can’t use the plugin without a login, so not helpful.

However, it was helpful to remove the login check so other plugins can use Quick Mail to validate email addresses.

Quick Mail 3.5.4 has been tested with WordPress 5.2.2 and nightly releases, including multisite.
